…but it sure was a busy one in Lake Oswego. This was the first week of school. I am teaching 7th and 8th graders which is sort of a fun change except I’m having to relearn what junior high kids know and don’t know. It turned out to be a pretty good week. No kids had major melt-downs. Everybody got to the classes they were supposed to go to…eventually. I love the students and all of the teachers I have had a chance to get to know so far. I think I may have bitten off a bit more than I can chew at the moment–there are several classes that have been “invented” for this year and there is no curriculum in place. I love doing curriculum development but it’s hard to do well while you’re scrambling to learn all that other stuff that you’ve got to get your head around as a “new” teacher.
Nate had the good fortune of going to the Oregon Ducks game vs. IU on Saturday afternoon. A whole busload of people from his firm went down to the game. Surprisingly, IU pulled off a win 30-24.
While Nate went to the game, I destressed by going hiking with my co-teacher, Stacey, and her dog, Bailey. We went hiking in to a couple of waterfalls in the Gorge. It was a great way to put “school” behind us for a while and just enjoy each other’s company and the beautiful hike.
Sunday we went to church at Imago Dei again and then to our new favorite coffeeshop, Crema. Nate says they have the best coffee he’s had in Portland so far. Tonight we went to a shindig that our realtor, C. Morgan Davis, throws every year. He doesn’t advertise and works by referral only, so every year he throws a great big “referral” party to thank all the clients he’s done business with. Our friends, Michael and Debra, won a weekend on the coast because they had referred the most clients to Morgan this year.
Off to bed…..
